Fading, but not quite forgotten is the lettering on this abandoned warehouse near Sampson at McKinney Streets in the city's Second Ward.

Just another example of urabn decay that I like to shoot.

Lessons to be Learned

This water treatment along Metro's light rail line on Main St. downtown pretty much says it all: "As we build our city let us think that we are building forever."

Today SpaceX's Dragon became the first privately funded spacecraft docked with the International Space Station.

This display on the esplanade outside of NASA's headquarters pays homage to all the countries involved in the Space Station's existence.

Just another non-typical capture that I like to throw in from time to time. This abandoned warehouse is near Sampson at McKinney Streets in the Second Ward.

Well... maybe not your typical one, but this arrangement of barbed wire in different stages of aging make for a rather interesting decorating choice.

In Case You Missed It...

This past weekend was the Art Car Parade. While I was unable to attend this year, here is a capture of the ArtCar Museum. Some refer to it as the Garage Mahal, but this privately owned museum of contemporary art is a year round reminder of the parade eccentricities.

Best part… its revolving exhibits are free.

Your tickets that is...

This image is a close-up of the Home Team ticket window in the soon to be razed Robertson Stadium, featured yesterday.

I really dig this.

So much so, I might have to research to see if they would be willing to sell such things before it ends up in a landfill.

Catch a Glimpse Now

Robertson Stadium, located on the main campus of the University of Houston, is to be eventually demolished, making way for a bigger newer stadium. Originally opened in 1942, not only did the stadium host Cougar football and soccer games, it recently hosted home games for the MSL’s Houston Dynamo (before their new stadium recently opened) and was the original home for the Houston Oilers in the early 1960s prior to the Astrodome’s existence.

The pedestrian bridge that leads to Bayou Bend Gardens from the parking lot. An interesting way to start your tour.

Beauty in Decay

IMG_2962 by lc_db
Sometimes... my camera eye is drawn to the most unusual things. This abandoned building near Congress Ave. and Bastrop St. is the perfect example.

Shine a Light on Me

Kemah is known more for its boardwalk, marina and small shops, but just a few blocks away is this small lighthouse. No longer in practical use, it still is nice that it is still around.

Another San Jacinto

IMG_2608 by lc_db
This replica of the San Jacinto Monument stands in front of what used to originally be San Jacinto High School. It was erected in 1995 to honor the students that attended from 1926 until 1970. Thankfully, the classic revival structure is being refurbished as part of the Houston Community College Central Campus.

Notable alumni from the high school include Dr. Denton Cooley and Walter Cronkite, and at one time had a public speaking instructor that went on to become President of the United States. Lyndon Johnson.
